Rolling Retro 2023 - Retro Surf Celebration presented by Sweet River, Vudu Surf & Skullcandy
One of the world's longest running, Retro surf days! The 2023 Rolling Retro ushered in a return to the early days prior to Covid. Magnificent weather, fun to slightly heavy surf, a packed field of surfers and a crowded beach of spectators. The new Team format worked really well and the heats were stacked with surfers from around the Cape Peninsula. Some of the teams were even sponsored by local companies, while others were just friends from surf areas around the Cape.
In the second semifinal it was the young guns of, Team Jeets PM, loaded with top QS surfers, Luke Thompson, Luke Slijpen, Connor Slijpen, Eli Beukes and Noah Khan, the top qualifiers, dropping hammers in a hard-fought battle with the Scarbarbarians. The deep south surfers went down swinging, but it was the Jeets going to the final.
By now the beach was heaving, the music was pumping and a real festival atmosphere had gripped the beach. The finals got under way and the waves kept pouring in. Eli Beukes pulled into one of the craziest tubes of the day, eagerly egged on by the loud crowd, only to get clipped by the foam ball and go down hard (He would win best wipeout). The older gents of Team Bomax took a while to get going and they never really were able to catch up to the new guard, as the Jeets PM took the first ever Rolling Retro, team title.
A jovial prize giving ensued and this was followed by 3 hours of good music, with DJ Big D (Dion Walters) before the sun set on another fantastic Rolling Retro. The event once again proving that it is the best beach day of the year and one of the best surf events in the world.
Presented by: Sweet River Brewery, Skullcandy, Vudu Surf, Traeger, Hurricane Surf, Pixme, Zigzag, Pit Viper, Ocean freedom and The Regular Guy.

Introducing my first impressions of the Baic B40 4x4 - and its from China. @BAICglobal have introduced the B40 Plus into the South African Market. Pyzel Mid Length Crisis Surfboard Review - The Regular Guy
Переглядів 35 тис.2 роки тому
Ever since Pyzel announced they were releasing this board, I have wanted to review it. Coming out of Hawaii, I suspected this board would like a bit of grunt and it did not disappoint! Pyzel really pulled out a hard charging Midlength. I surfed it in hollow Beachbreak, some pretty flat conditions and then in solid 6-8ft Jbay. I rode it in the stock dimensions: Size: 7'6 x 21 3/4 x 3 1/16 Volume...
Giant waves and classic surfboards - Rolling Retro 2022
Переглядів 1,5 тис.2 роки тому
The 2022 Rolling Retro will be remembered as the day surfers had to brave giant waves at Llandudno on classic surfboards. Amazingly not one board was broken and every surfer, bodysurfer and kneeboarder (Shout to the Frogster) made it back to the beach in one piece too. The event had a 3 year break due to Covid and both locals and punters at Llandudno, Cape Town, were super stoked to have the ev...

Channel Islands Biscuit Bonzer & Bonzer 5, Review - The Regular Guy S05E05

I have wanted to surf a proper Bonzer Surfboard for a very long time. When you think Bonzer, one name comes to mind, that of the, Campbell Brothers. When we decided to review Single Fin surfboards, we had to ask Spider Murphy to send us a board. It took me a few waves to get my rhythm on this board, as you will see fin my first few waves. Once I connec...

When we chatted about a Single Fin season, Mat was keen to shape a log for testing. But a chance encounter with an old, Clive Barber, Single from the 70’s got him excited to try a Midlength. Hi, I am from India, and got the pu ci mid . Love the board for our mellow waves . It’s so easy to get in to the waves, I wanted to ask you how can I find the epoxy version. The pu version is so brittle and dings so easily, I think epoxy is way stronger. I am not able to find the epoxy version of this board online !!! Please help..

Hello, for the epoxy you will have to order a custom. Get in touch with CI for your region or head office and they can sort you out.

Hi, some regions will stock them, but most will require a custom order from CI for your region. You can get hold of them and order the board direct.

always carry a fin key with you when you paddle out, if it turns on moving the fin back 2 or 3 mm will make all the difference in the world. if its small or not overly fast moving it up half a cm will completely change the board

@@TheRegularGuyReview thanks so much. just bought a beat up old mid strength and have tried it out once in very small waves here in Bali. wave count is already increasing and one day I'll rip half as well as you (only started surfing 2 years ago and I'm 52 so this is gonna help me eventually get back on my 5'10 dumpster diver which I love). swell is back in 3 days then I'll get a chance to try to step on the (yellow) tail. I'll decide how I feel about this board vs my Chilli Miami Spice groveller. Any thoughts on groveller (6.0/22.5/39l) vs this board?

Fantastic vid mate and well done on your accomplishments, Im learning to kiteboard also i already had my first lesson here in qld Australia done all the safty stuff and a few extra tips thrown in i already knew about the power window as i i used to fly stunt kites growing up also did abit of body dragging with a 6m kite idk what to expect for mext lesson but im super pumped for next lesson but not so stoked with the $300au dollar price tag for a 2 hours 1on1 lesson was told by instructor that i did very well better than most for a first timer he reckons so next lesson will be probs abit more body dragging on a bigger kite or getting up on the board maybe or something cant wait to feel that feeling of achievement wish me luck i may need it.

Hey man stoked on your review vids. Looking to get a mid length for my dad who surfs almost as good as you but just coming back from a shoulder injury. He’s been long boarding but at his age he might not be hoping back down to a short board. Looking to get him something in the 7’6 range that paddles really well and can still do turns on. Surfs primarily at churches (between San onofre and trestles San Clemente. Softer right hand point break. Wondering if you could recommend something since all your mid length vids are great. Cheers.

Love stings. I made a 10’2 pin version. Watching this vid made me wanna shape a smaller version for myself. Surfed a 8’ one as a kid in Tahiti. It went really well. Tube rode well too.

    • @woodman1701
      @woodman1701 8 місяців тому

@@TheRegularGuyReview Well, I have photos of it. I ended up reshaping it into a 9’ version. Moved the wings further back and left it super thick. I ended up making the rails softer due to moving the wings aft so far. The resulting board was slower and looser. I ride that for a while and realized I liked the old design better as the old one was longer and faster. Had I hardened the rails, and kept the sting further forward I would’ve been happier even at 9’. One day I walked into a Surfshop and saw a beautiful 10’6 glider I wanted, so I traded the 9’. I’ve ridden the newer 10’6 near a year now. Tried multiple fin set ups, installed FCS plugs and tried even more fin set ups. Still not quite right. I miss the sting board with hard rails aft of the sting. If I could go back in time I would have run a tucked edge to near the nose on the old 10’2 for even more speed, but I had visions of trying to fit my board into my truck bed for a drive to Mexico. The original 10’2 was a generic soft rail glider round pin I had shaped with soft rails, which I hated. That was the reason for putting sting in to the rails in the first place. The hard rails and pivot point moved up added a lot of speed and allowed the board to turn from further forward. Somehow I had forgotten I hated soft rails through all these changes. It’s like having a parking brake on while driving. Kills the performance outside of small pivot turns. The old 10’2 I ran with a D fin. Went pretty good. It was olive green on the bottom with a black deck with olive cross stripes. Wicked board it was. I have photos. The current 10’6 is clear pin tail and currently riding as an FCS thruster. I found the thruster fin set up makes it feel like a giant short board. I can even do round house cutbacks on bigger waves. It’s interesting. I would have loved trying that fin set up on the old stinger 10’2. Eventually I’ll do another stinger board and be sure to add some FCS plugs for experiments. They make as big a difference as the stinger does in how it feels. I know a fin set up like that is sacrilege, but I love to experiment. Sometimes it pays off well, other times it’s a dud. That’s how we learn. Never did make it to Mexico. One day.

Hey mate, I love your review. I had the mid strength epoxy 6.8 it was amazing. I just felt the epoxy wasn't right for me in choppy conditions. Very responsive and manoeuvrable on the tail, I surfed it as a twin. I'm hesitating between the same in pu or the CI mid length. Which one is more high-performance, and which one is more all-rounder?

Excellent review. It looked kinda sluggish for the waves you surfed which is average or even good for us everyday surfers. Think I’ll just stick to the lost quiver killer for my traveling needs. It’s more user friendly and gets the job done better for these kinds of waves short of full on barrels. I think happy traveler is only good for punchy big waves/ bigger barreling reef breaks. With all that nose rocker, can’t imagine it paddles that well either. 😅
